The Wilds Season 1, Episode 7 recap: Day Fifteen
The girls reach breaking point on The Wilds Season 1, Episode 7
Leah’s paranoia gets the better of her on The Wilds Season 1, Episode 7. At the same time, we get to learn more about Jeanette. It’s time to break down the episode.
This episode filled in a few blanks about the project that Gretchen has set up. Dawn of Eve is about research, and this survival test is purely just to see how women will react. Will they prove to be better leaders than men?
Gretchen doesn’t hate men, though. She doesn’t want more power than men have. She wants women to be on an equal footing to men, to share the power. Does that mean what she’s doing is right? Oh hell no!
Jeanette is really called Lynn
For the sake of this recap, we will keep referring to Jeanette as Jeanette. However, that was a name created by her for her new profile. She is really Lynn, an Australian grad student who was designed to be the mole (or Confederate, as Gretchen calls her) on the island. As an adult, she would help with the liability issues on the island.
Jeanette was more than happy to play a part in this after meeting Gretchen, her idol. She hears what the project is about and why Gretchen is doing this.
At the same time, Jeanette shares that she hates men. She was drugged and gang-raped when she was in college. It’s left her with mental scars that affect her during the survival test.
The plane crash was faked. It never went down after all, which means Dawn of Eve created that black box recording specifically for the test. They’ve thought of everything. Instead, the girls were drugged and knocked out, which is where Jeanette’s past experience comes up.
She can’t deal with seeing Leah knocked out. Leah didn’t get a choice in this, and it makes Jeanette have a panic attack. As she fights against Thom, Jeanette falls over the side of the dock where they all are, hitting her stomach on the dock at the same time. That’s how she ends up with the internal bleeding in the series premiere. Nobody even thought of checking her over after the outburst.
Something that Jeanette does bring up that is important is that there’s another operative on the island. It would make sense for it to be Dot, but is she the other mole? Is Leah right and it’s Shelby? We’ll get our answers eventually.
Leah confronts Shelby on The Wilds Season 1, Episode 7
After a weird dream, Martha wakes up to the tide rolling in. It’s a tidal surge that has caught everyone by surprise. On top of that, the fire is out. Now the girls need to go to another part of the beach and figure out a way to light a fire without a lighter.
Don’t worry! Shelby comes across Jeanette’s bag, which just so happens to have a lighter. Martha’s bags were also there, which means she has some things from home now including her frog poncho and her Uno cards.
Shelby finding the bags leads to Leah accusing her of working with whoever has stranded them there. Why would Shelby wander off all the time? Shelby admits that she has fake teeth, and she wanders off to clean them in private. Of course, we know there is another mole. Could it be Shelby?
When the girls get to a new part of the beach, Dot makes it clear she is no longer the leader. It’s up to someone else to take over, and Rachel does just that. She hands out tough love to everyone, but everyone starts resenting her for it.
This leads to Nora and Rachel fighting. At first, the other girls stay out of a sibling fight, but they later have to intervene. It ends up with Dot getting hurt.
While all that goes on, Toni and Shelby are collecting firewood and compare each other’s lives. Shelby suddenly kisses Toni. Shelby doesn’t hate Toni, but maybe she can’t find a way to accept herself yet. There’s jealousy there for Toni having it all figured out. Shelby rushes from Toni, leading to Toni rushing after her. They accidentally end up in the middle of the twins’ fight.
Dot and Fatin then start to fight over a toothbrush. The girls are at breaking point.
Dot reveals a heartbreaking truth
Dot is the one to end the fight on The Wilds Season 1, Episode 7. She delivers a hard truth to the girls. Rescue is not likely coming.
They’re onto Day 15 on the island. While they would have been on all news channels at first, eventually, other things would get in the way. They’d have parents and friends fighting to search for them, but the money would run out. Eventually, the girls would be forgotten about.
There’s a solemn moment after this. However, there is a little bit of hope. Fatin hears a plane. Sure enough, a plane comes around the bend of the island and sees the girls. While all the girls are excited, Shelby just watches upset. Why?
How long did you think it would take for the girls to reach breaking point? Will this plane mean rescue on The Wilds Season 1, Episode 7? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
