The Pianist is one of the five good Amazon movies to watch this weekend

This week saw the large drop of new releases on Amazon Prime Video. That list gets overwhelming, so we’re making it easier by picking out the best Amazon movies on the list for the weekend.

There is an excellent selection of movies from the first-of-the-month drop. This list is made up of movies across different genres to give you something that will interest you. They are all available for free on Amazon Prime Video between Oct. 3 and 4.

The Pianist

We start with a meaningful movie set in Poland during the Second World War. It’s about a Polish man who has lost his family. He spends the time trying to find them, while simply trying to survive the war. It’s not easy when you’re being hunted down.

This is a movie based on a true story. Władysław Szpilman was a Jewish pianist and a Holocaust survivor.

Girl, Interrupted

If you want to stay away from the wartime movies, you can turn your attention to one that focuses on mental health. Girl, Interrupted stars Winona Ryder as a young woman who tries to kill herself. Her family decides to put her in a psychiatric hospital, where she meets Angelina Jolie’s character.

Jolie’s character is a disturbed woman but also highly influential. She takes Ryder’s character on a journey that makes her question her life, the world, and the people in it.

The Departed

Next up is the 2006 Martin Scorsese movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, and other high-profile stars. Even if you’ve seen it before, you’ll want to watch it again. There are so many things you’ll see with each viewing.

The movie follows an undercover agent and a spy, who are constantly trying to out-do each other. They need to counter-attack in an effort to protect their own lives, preventing themselves from being exposed while also trying to infiltrate an Irish gang.

A Knight’s Tale

Want more of a comedy? A Knight’s Tale is a must. Starring the late Heath Ledger, A Knight’s Tale is about a servant who impersonates his deceased master in a jousting tournament. When he wins that one, he needs to take part in more. Of course, there’s always the risk that he’s going to be exposed.

It’s an excellent tale of courage and confidence. It’s also just a silly movie for the weekend, perfect for the whole family.

30 Days of Night

Finally, there’s a horror movie to get you in the mood for Halloween at the end of the month. 30 Days of Night stars Josh Hartnett and Melissa George who live in an Alaskan town that experiences a month of total darkness every year.

The town is usually ready for it, with the majority of people leaving. However, this year, a group of vampires decides to attack. One couple remains in the way of the vampires and their intended victims.
