3. Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress

Episodes: 12

Looking for an anime that has elements of World War Z and a Steam Punk industrialization backdrop? Look no further. This is a really exciting series and brings you zombies, ninjas, crazy inventions, almost anything that the mind can conjure up.

This post-apocalyptic series highlights how humanity is almost on the brink of destruction as the world is overrun by zombies (Kabane). Humans have surrounded themselves with giant walls and the only way in or out of the city is with the use of trains. These kinds of anime series is nothing new, but when there is a slight tweak, like the zombies having solidified hearts and the only way to kill them is piercing the heart, makes it a bit more nail-biting.

The Anime has an interesting concept and it looks good. The story is excellent but short, however, there is a sequel named Koutetsujou no Kabaneri Movie 3: Unato Kessen, which is a direct follow up where the anime leaves the audience hanging. Movie one and movie two are a summary of the entire 12 episodes and is just a compressed version of the series.
