Will Hanna Season 2 come to DVD and Blu-ray?
The Hanna Season 2 DVD release probably won’t happen
There’s no doubt that we’ve enjoyed Hanna Season 2. After all, it’s been renewed for a third season already. Now our eyes are on whether we can own the Hanna Season 2 DVD or Blu-ray.
I have some bad news, I’m afraid. It’s unlikely that the season will be released on DVD and Blu-ray.
The main reason I say that is because we don’t have the first season in physical format. This could be released at the end of the month, making sure people have time to binge-watch the two seasons on Amazon Prime Video first, but it’s unlikely to happen.
Why doesn’t Amazon release its shows on DVD and Blu-ray?
Right now, there is one main reason for Amazon not to release the Hanna Season 2 DVD. In fact, there’s one main reason not to release any of the Amazon Originals on DVD and Blu-ray. It’s all about exclusivity.
With so many streaming services, exclusivity is more important than ever before. If someone wants to watch one of the Amazon Originals, they’re going to need an Amazon Prime Video subscription. This means money directly into Amazon’s pocket. What’s the point in you keeping a subscription if you can get the DVD for a one-off payment?
Funnily enough, Amazon probably doesn’t need exclusivity. There are far more reasons we have Amazon Prime Video. After all, it’s part of the overall Prime membership, which offers two-day free shipping, access to Amazon Music, and so much more.
However, the focus is on more exclusive content on Amazon Prime Video. The best way to do that is to make sure the Original shows and movies don’t end up on DVD and Blu-ray. This isn’t always the case but is becoming more of the case with newer ones, including Hanna.
It’s a shame because part of the reason to have the DVD and Blu-rays is to get the deleted scenes and gag reels. Maybe Hanna can do something like The Boys and release things on the social platforms.
