It’s time to breakdown the promo for Penny Dreadful: City of Angels Episode 9

We’re onto the penultimate episode of the Penny Dreadful: City of Angels Season 1. Tensions are high and storylines are starting to converge. It’s time to break down the promo and synopsis to see what we can expect.

This episode is likely to end with a major cliffhanger. It’s going to leave our two cops who are trying to save the city in a terrible place, which may or may not involve their intentions to pin all the blame for the murders on an innocent man. Meanwhile, Maria will continue to try to protect the Craft boys from the Beast.

Here’s a look at the promo and synopsis for Penny Dreadful: City of Angels Episode 9 before we get into the breakdown:

"In danger, Tiago and Lewis must make bold decisions. With Townsend (Michael Gladis) at the end of his rope, he’s forced to turn to a last resort. Spurred by Elsa, Peter (Rory Kinnear) decides to take Tom (Julian Hilliard), Trevor (Hudson West) and Frank (Santino Barnard) to the movies. Lewis oversees the prison transfer of Diego Lopez (Adan Rocha) as Tiago and Molly (Kerry Bishé) go dancing at the Crimson Cat, where they confront the rest of the Vega family."

Tiago and Lewis need to take down the Third Reich

It’s up to our two detectives to save the city. They need to take down the Third Reich, but it isn’t going to be easy.

Something Penny Dreadful: City of Angels has taught me is that the Nazis did manage to get to the west. They were a major threat to the U.S., even though it was Europe where most of the atrocities took place. Maybe it shouldn’t be all that surprising with the racism throughout the city, and not just in the police force.

Lewis and Tiago will have everything and everyone working against them. They’ll need to take a few risks if they want to succeed.

Tiago and Molly want to take the next step

Things aren’t looking good for Molly and Tiago after the last episode. They want to be together but can’t be seen in public together. But Molly is fed up with that. She’s fed up with the life that her mom has put her in.

They’re ready to make things public. That leads to them heading to the Crimson Cat. It should be a safe space, but it doesn’t sound like it will be.

The Vega family continues to struggle

The Vega family hasn’t seen eye-to-eye from the beginning. Did we really think anything different during the penultimate episode?

It looks like Raul may head to the Crimson Cat, along with Josefina. And they’re going to be there when Molly and Tiago are. Of course, Mateo will be there with Rio and Fly Rico. It’s time for everyone to come face-to-face. Will it mean a family war?

Townsend has one chance left

Nothing has been going to Townsend’s plan. Of course, that’s not a bad thing considering what he wanted to do. But it means he’s a desperate man, and that means he’ll be willing to do desperate things.

He’s turning to a last resort. It’s not clear who that is, but it sounds like from the promo that Alex is spurring him on. How will this link to the rest of the storylines?

Elsa puts Maria at risk

Elsa sends Peter Craft out to the movies with the three boys. That sounds like it should be a fun day out, but we know Elsa has ulterior motives. On the boys’ side, it’s all about Frank’s continued terrorizing of the two Craft boys.

But what about Maria? She’s going to find herself up against Elsa, who claims that she wanted to be friends with Maria. Of course, we know differently. Elsa is looking to destroy Maria, but can Maria protect the Craft family from the Beast?
