This weekend marks a time to remember our fallen heroes. It’s a chance to mourn the loss of military personnel. There are some excellent movies that focus on military battles and important moments in military history. They are among the five good Amazon movies to watch this Memorial Day weekend.
Most of the movies on this list are military movies. There’s one that isn’t, but is a worthy watch as it’s just been added to the streaming service. All but two of the movies are available to watch for free on Amazon Prime Video.
5. Rocketman
We’ll start with the movie that has just been added to Amazon Prime Video. This would be a worthy watch at any point of the year. Rocketman is all about the early days of Elton John’s career, focusing on his addictions and what they did to his relationships.
If you’ve been waiting for the movie to stream on Prime to watch, now is your chance. Taron Egerton’s performance is excellent.
4. The Wall
The first of the military Amazon movies to check out this Memorial Day weekend is The Wall. Allan “Ize” Isaac and Shane Matthews are two soldiers who answer a distress call in the postwar Iraqi desert. When both are injured from gunshots, they have to take cover behind a crumbling stone wall.
It’s a fight for survival for the two soldiers. Everything is stacked against them, especially when there’s a sniper they can’t see who is ready for his kills.

3. The Ghost Army
One of the Amazon movies that will have gone under the radar when first released would have been The Ghost Army. Considering the name, it does seem quite fitting. However, this isn’t a movie that should be missed.
The 23rd Headquarters Special Troops was known as The Ghost Army. Starting with Normandy, The Ghost Army staged 20 battlefield deceptions. They would lead enemies away to allow the Allies to take on the forces in the most strategic places to win the Second World War.
2. Hacksaw Ridge
This is the only movie not available to stream for free. You can rent for $3.99, and it’s certainly worth it. Hacksaw Ridge is one of the strongest military movies in the last few decades.
Not all heroes wear capes and not all heroes even carry guns. Desmond Doss was a conscientious objector during the Second World War but that didn’t stop him from doing his part. Without carrying a gun, he went on the front lines and saved 75 men.
This is more than entertainment. It’s based on a true story that will hit you in the heart. It’s perfect for Memorial Day weekend.
1. 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi
Before he took on the role of Jack Ryan but after The Office, John Krasinski starred in 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. It’s one of the Amazon movies you need to check out this weekend.
Six elite ex-military operators are given a mission. They need to defend an American diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya. The compound is facing a wave of terrorist attacks. The odds are stacked against them, but these men aren’t going down without a fight.
This is another movie that isn’t available on Amazon Prime Video but is worth watching. You can buy or rent on Amazon Video right now.
