5. Carnival Row

What can a show about mythical creatures and a show about superheroes possibly have in common? Well, quite a lot when you look past the surface.

Carnival Row and The Boys are both shows about oppression, racism, and power. Throughout The Boys, we see how superheroes are viewed as celebrities. They think that they have all the power and that they can do whatever they way. Throughout the first season, we watched as a group of humans tried to take them down, but the Supes and the company Vought did everything possible to tear the humans down.

Throughout Carnival Row, the humans have the power. They view the creatures as lesser beings. There are those who want to find a balance, but those who want to push the fae into a ghetto, forcing them to live separate lives and in fear.

Both shows also involve supernatural entities that are accepted in their worlds. The fae in our world are just mythical creatures that we tell folklore about, but in Carnival Row, they’re refugees in a world run by humans. In The Boys, we have a bunch of superheroes that take on celebrity status. These storylines allow for modern-day stories to be told through fictional events. There are plenty of parallels to draw throughout both shows.

Carnival Row Season 1 is currently available to stream on Amazon Prime Video. Season 2 has been confirmed.
