4. Poison Study

YA books created by: Maria V. Snyder

Already optioned/created: There don’t seem to be any options out for the novel series just yet. It’s actually one of the most underrated book series of its time.

Why it needs to be adapted: Maria V. Snyder has created content that fans have longed for before fans pushed for it. I won’t give away the ending to the first book in the series, but it has an LGBTQ storyline that will certainly draw attention. I’ll admit that I’m only partway through this series, so I’m not 100% sure if it comes up again. However, with a TV series adaptation, it could certainly be written in.

Poison Study is just the first book in the overall series that focuses on a young girl, Yelena, who is on death row for murder. She certainly committed that murder. There’s no doubt about that. But there are reasons she carried out the crime, and you quickly come to feel for her.

Why Amazon should adapt Three Dark Crowns into a series. light. Related Story

Instead of execution, she’s given the chance to become a food taster for the commander of the realm. This would likely mean death in the future, but there is also a chance of life. Taking that chance, she starts to learn more about herself and the world around her. She also finally gets revenge for something that happened in her past.

There are love stories, friendships, and connections to family throughout the series. It’s one that involves rebellion and magic, which will certainly draw the attention of those who love period fantasy dramas. The books were progressive for their time, so the show would be just right for now.
