7. Elsewhere

YA books created by: Gabrielle Zevin

Already optioned/created: This isn’t a book that has been optioned just yet. That doesn’t mean it won’t be snapped up at some point.

Why it needs to be adapted: Not all YA books need to be turned into long TV shows. A limited series could be perfect, and this is where Sevin’s Elsewhere comes into play.

The book is about a young girl, Liz, who dies. We see her “life” in the afterlife, where she has to simply deal with the fact that she is dead. There is one saving grace; the people in the afterlife age backward and are reborn. This is a chance to get a better life than the one she had, but there are tasks Liz needs to complete to help figure out where she will be.

light. Related Story. Why Amazon should adapt The Huntress into a limited series

One of the beauties of the book is that it focuses on character growth. This is one that makes readers think, and the TV series is likely to do the same.

Of course, like other limited series, this could be renewed for another season. The creators would then need to develop a story without source material. I just don’t think it would need it!
