8. The Red Queen

YA books created by: Victoria Aveyard

Already optioned/created: The book series was optioned back in 2015 for a movie series. However, nothing has happened since. Eventually, the contract will run out and it could be perfect for Amazon to snap it up.

Why it needs to be adapted: When it comes to YA books, there are a lot that focus on dystopian futures with women who have to help lead a new generation of characters. The Red Queen series is no different, which has an end point with Broken Throne, released in 2019.

As you would expect with the dystopian future, there is plenty of world and character building happening throughout. This is something that could happen slowly as more characters are introduced in the TV series. We could even get the basic start of how the future was created, which is explained through catastrophic disasters that almost wiped out all of the human race.

Fans of The 100 would most likely be drawn to the series. It would also be good for those who like The Hunger Games. There are different types of humans, including the Silvers (with superpowers) and Reds (the powerless).

We follow Mare Barrow, who is a Red and can pickpocket and that’s about it. When Mare falls into an electrical shield covering the Queenstrial arena, she needs to figure out how to survive. At the same time, she learns she had an ability all along and quickly needs to control it.
