9. The Lunar Chronicles

YA books created by: Marissa Meyer

Already optioned/created: There doesn’t appear to be talk of adapting these books into a series just yet. This could be the perfect time for Amazon to step in.

Why it needs to be adapted: When you want YA sci-fi, The Lunar Chronicles is the book series to turn to. The beauty of the stories is that they add a sci-fi element to some of the greatest Grimm Brothers fairy tales we know. It’s time to get to know Cinderella, Rapunzel, Sleeping Beauty, and more in a new light.

There are five books to the series, but that doesn’t mean five seasons would be necessary. The books could be turned into a limited series or two short seasons, offering one or two episodes per tale. Alternatively, they could be combined to tell the stories together, similarly to how Once Upon a Time combined the characters’ storylines.

One of the great things about the YA books is that they flip the stories on their heads. The women are no longer the passive participants in their own stories. They take control and are ready for action. In a world where strong women are needed, this is the series that would work well.
