10 YA books that Amazon needs to consider adapting
10. Percy Jackson
YA books created by: Rick Riordan
Already optioned/created: We had a selection of movies done in the past, with Hunters‘s Logan Lerman in the lead. However, the movies didn’t perform as well as hoped and the books were never continued.
Why it needs to be adapted: Part of the issue of the films at the time was that it was hoping to jump on the bandwagon of Harry Potter. There were a few similarities in the basic storytelling (mostly a high school boy who was supposed to be the savior of the world) but the Potterheads didn’t join in with the fun.
At the same time, the graphics just weren’t quite good enough at the time, especially for the big screen. When it comes to the graphics on a smaller screen, Amazon likely has the budget to create something.
There are enough books to adapt into seasons and continue a story. There are also plenty of characters to focus on, developing them in ways that a movie wouldn’t have time.
The show could even do something that The Magicians did. Take the books, jumble the stories, and create something fresh but similar at the same time.
