1. The Selection

YA books created by: Keira Cass

Already optioned/created: Warner Bros. has optioned the books for films. This happened in 2015, but nothing has been developed just yet.

Why it needs to be adapted: If you like dystopian futures, you’re going to love The Selection series. The YA books also offer a romance tale, which is popular for many.

The books have been referred to as The Hunger Games meets The Bachelor, which certainly feels apt as you work your way through the stories. The difference is the bloodsport from The Hunger Games is missing.

America Singer is a young girl selected to be in a competition known as The Selection. This competition helps the heir of the land find his partner for life, and America is one of 35 girls competing for the heart of Prince Maxon. If she wins, she’ll leave her whole family behind, including her boyfriend, who she keeps a secret.

Naturally, this would lead to plenty of storylines for all. There is the forbidden romance with the secret boyfriend, the ability for America to find herself, and the new relationship forming with the prince.

One of the downsides of the books is the way they move onto another main character. This might not work too well for TV, but could be included from the beginning to have two storylines happening at the same time.
