Christmas Day is a time for many to spend with family. And there are chances you’ll watch something on TV. Choose one of these five HBO shows today.

Not everyone has children in the house for Christmas. This can make HBO an excellent streamer to turn to. After all, I’ve never found anything family-friendly on this site. So, for Christmas Day, get the adults in the house around the TV for one of these five great HBO shows.

5. Game of Thrones

Naturally, Game of Thrones had to be on the list, but it’s not because it’s the most popular TV show HBO has produced. It’s all to do with the season.

“Winter is coming” is a phrase known by GoT fans for good reason. It all starts with the threat of winter and the forces beyond the wall. You’ll get a show that feels like the icy temperatures already outside.

4. Big Little Lies

Need something that isn’t too long but is still intriguing and exciting? Big Little Lies is the show to turn to. If you only have the time for one season, you’re still in luck. The series was originally developed as a limited series, so that first season works as a standalone story.

The second season goes beyond the book that Big Little Lies was based on. The powerhouse cast certainly makes both seasons brilliant to watch. So tune in right away.

3. Band of Brothers

Let’s not overlook one of the greatest shows of the past. Band of Brothers is a military show, but it also focuses on a brotherhood. And it’s all about family on Christmas Day, right?

Based on Stephen E. Ambrose’s non-fiction book from 1992, the series follows a platoon of soldiers during World War II. In 10 episodes we see the events that these real soldiers saw. And it’s a limited series, which means you’re done in 10 hours of viewing.

2. Watchmen

One of the newest HBO shows to watch this Christmas Day has to be Watchmen. Whether you’ve read the comics or watched the original movie or done neither, you can still enjoy the series.

We’re told the story of Angela Abar, who has to deal with figuring out who killed her police chief. The man who says did it couldn’t possibly. After all, he’s in a wheelchair. On top of that, white supremacists are rising up and there’s a weird plotline to do with a man who kills off a lot of clones. It’s a twisty show, but one that will leave you mesmerized.

1. Veep

Finally, we come to a comedy. Veep came to an end in 2019, so now is the perfect time to binge-watch the entire series. It’s political in nature, but you’ll find the satirical humor fun. It likes to poke fun at itself as well as the real American political flaws.

What’s great is that you only get a hint of the political party in Office around the fourth season. And then, it’s only a hint but never confirmed. It was also supportive of its time (first released in 2012), focusing on a female rising to power in the political sphere to eventually become President of the United States.
