2. ThanksKilling (2009)

  • Directed by: Jordan Downey
  • Starring: Chuck Lamb, Ryan Francise, Wanda Lust, Aaron Carlson, Lance Predmore, and Natasha Cordova

ThanksKilling is very different from every other movie on this list. It’s not a family-friendly movie unless you’re okay with showing kids violent, darkly comedic films. It is a black comedy horror film made for a low-budget raised by a Kickstarter fund.

The movie is very entertaining to watch if you enjoy B-grade horror films. It was popular enough to spawn several sequels and even a musical adaptation. The plot follows a killer turkey intent on murdering college students.

1. The Man Who Invented Christmas (2017)

  • Directed by: Bharat Nalluri
  • Starring: Christopher Plummer, Jonathan Pryce, and Dan Stevens

This is the story of Charles Dickens and the process of creating the infamous story, A Christmas Carol. Dan Stevens plays the role of Charles Dickens. It takes place during a time of great failure for Charles Dickens.

He had three failed novels and was desperately seeking subject matter for a new story when he discovered the idea for A Christmas Carol and the beloved characters such as Ebenezer Scrooge and Tiny Tim. It was praised for the acting and for being a genuinely heartwarming film. While this is obviously more of a Christmas movie than a Thanksgiving movie, it’s a great way to get into the seasonal spirit.
