6. Goodnight Mommy (2014)

Goodnight Mommy is an Austrian horror film. The movie was submitted to compete at the 88th Academy Awards under the Best Foreign Language Film category. Unfortunately, it wasn’t selected, but the movie still received a fair amount of critical praise.

A mother returns home after receiving intensive cosmetical facial surgery. Her face is hidden by heavy bandages leaving only her eyes and mouth visible. Her twin boys, Elias and Lukas, find her new appearance startling. She begins exhibiting strange behaviors, and the boys become convinced someone is merely impersonating their mother.

5. The Woman in Black (2012)

In one of his first post-Harry Potter films, Daniel Radcliffe starred in this atmospheric gothic horror film. It is based on the novel of the same name written by Jane Goldman. Radcliffe’s character, a lawyer named Arthur Kipps, is recently widowed.

To keep his job, Arthur visits Eel Marsh House to retrieve important documents. When he arrives, he learns many of the villagers are fearful of the house. Arthur discovers that the ghost of a vengeful woman is haunting it and many of the locals are terrified.
