8. Open Water (2003)

  • Directed by: Chris Kentis
  • Starring: Blanchard Ryan and Daniel Travis

Do you like survival horror films? Open Water is one of the best out there, particularly in terms of killer shark movies. An American couple, Daniel and Susan, are frustrated with their busy lives keeping them from spending time together.

They plan an epic scuba diving vacation but wind up stranded in the middle of the ocean. The film is loosely based on the true story of Tom and Eileen Lonergan, who became stranded when their diving group mistakenly left them behind.

7. Suspiria (2018)

  • Directed by: Luca Guadagnino
  • Starring: Dakota Johnson, Tilda Swinton, Mia Goth, Angela Winkler, Alek Wek, and Ingrid Caven

Suspiria is inspired by the 1977 Italian film. The original Suspiria is regarded as one of the best horror movies of all time. I do recommend you watch it if you can. That said, the 2018 version is also fantastic in its own right.

Both Dakota Johnson and Tilda Swinton are incredibly versatile in their roles. Johnson plays Suzy Bannon, a newcomer to a Berlin dance academy that is run by a witch coven. The coven worships the Three Mothers and explores themes of motherhood, abuse of power, and female sexuality.
