2. Up in the Air

When it turns 10: Dec. 4

Who it’s for: This is slightly more adult but it could be fine for teenagers. It’s for those who love character-driven storylines, rather than a lot of action and explosions.

Why it does/doesn’t stand the test of time: The messages within Up in the Air certainly still stand. Whether it’s Anna Kendrick’s character learning more about how her actions can lead to someone taking their own life or George Clooney’s character learning there’s more to life than traveling, there’s something within this story that will capture your heart.

It’s not a movie I choose to put on time and time again, but that’s a personal choice. It is an entertaining and simplistic movie, focusing on character development.

1. Sherlock Holmes

When it turns 10: Dec. 25

Who it’s for: If you love period dramas or period comedies, then you’re going to want to check out this movie. Likewise, if you’re a fan of all things Sherlock Holmes, then check out the movie (and its sequel).

Why it does/doesn’t stand the test of time: Of course Sherlock Holmes stands the test of time. This is one of those movies that you can put on, know the entire storyline, and still feel entertained. Even the second one isn’t terrible!

There is a third movie with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law coming out soon. Will that hold up 10 years later? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
