2. Gone Baby Gone (2007)

  • Directed by: Ben Affleck
  • Starring: Casey Affleck, Michelle Monaghan, Morgan Freeman, Ed Harris, John Ashton, Amy Ryan, Amy Madigan, and Titus Welliver

If you’re in the mood for a neo-noir… watch the collaborative efforts of Ben and Casey Affleck in this movie based on the 1998 novel by Dennis Lehane. Gone Baby Gone served as Ben Affleck’s feature-length directorial debut. Amy Ryan was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film.

The movie follows private detective Patrick Kenzie (Affleck). He is tasked with trying to find the missing daughter of Helene McCready (Ryan). Many doubt Kenzie will be able to find the girl because she’s been missing for more than three days already when he is assigned to the case. Primary suspects include a child molester and a gangster, but Kenzie quickly begins the realize the truth may be far more insidious.

Gone Baby Gone is a haunting film; it’s a tense and well-constructed thriller. Critics and audiences alike loved the movie. If you didn’t get the chance to see it when it debuted, then now is the perfect chance to watch it. Odds are, you won’t figure out what direction the movie is going.
