3. True Grit (2010)

If you’re in the mood for a Western… make sure you watch the Coen brothers 2010 American Revisionist Western film, now available on Prime Video. The movie is an adaptation of Charles Portis’ 1968 novel.

It was nominated for 10 Academy Awards in total and launched Hailee Steinfeld’s acting career. She even earned herself a nod from the Academy. True Grit is about the outlaw Tom Chaney (Brolin) who murders the father of teenage Mattie Ross (Steinfeld). Ross hires Rooster Cogburn (Bridges) to help her track Chaney down so she can avenge her father’s death.

Damon’s character, a Texas Ranger, who is also in pursuit of Chaney, eventually joins them. If you’re a fan of the Coen brothers and missed seeing this film, you should check it out.

It was a sleeper hit at the theater and went on to earn more than $170 million at the box office. It has a similar feel to it as their previous film, No Country for Old MenTrue Grit isn’t quite as eccentric as some of the other Coen brothers’ movies, but it is a good, solid Western film.
