4. Love Happens (2009)

  • Directed by: Brandon Camp
  • Starring: Aaron Eckhard, Jennifer Aniston, Frances Conroy, Dan Fogler, Martin Sheen, and Judy Greer

If you’re planning a date night… then you might want to watch a romantic drama. Aaron Eckhart and Jennifer Aniston star in this 2009 film that arrived on Prime Video earlier this week. It tells the story of Dr. Burke Ryan (Eckhart) and Eloise Chandler (Aniston).

Burke is a self-help guru, but despite advising his patients to confront their past, Burke is still struggling to cope with his wife’s death. Meanwhile, Eloise is fed up with the dating world and decides to focus her time and energy on her floral business instead.

As fate would have it, Burke and Eloise eventually meet and feel an immediate attraction to one another. Will they be able to let go of their pasts and move forward together? Love Happens isn’t the most original romantic film in existence, but Eckhart and Aniston are charming enough leads, and the movie is surprisingly emotional.

However, you should be aware that despite Aniston’s involvement, this movie isn’t a romantic comedy. I called it a romantic drama for a reason. It’s not necessarily a “feel-good” movie. That said, it does have some amusing moments, and you may be astonished by its depth.
