1. Hannibal (2013 – 2015)

How to watch: Seasons 1-3 included with Prime

If you genuinely want to watch a show with the same kind of visionary cinematography and intensity as American Gods, then look no further than Hannibal. Bryan Fuller, the original creator of the American Gods series, also developed Hannibal and served as an executive producer.

Fuller’s artistic eye is not an easy one to replicate, so it might be easiest for you to watch another show he created. Hannibal is a disturbingly dark psychological horror series that, surprisingly, aired on NBC for three seasons.

It is a show that probably would have received better treatment had it originally aired on a streaming service or premium cable, but it is still hailed as one of the best horror television shows, and best television series in general, of all time. It has an intense cult following despite only airing for three seasons.

As the title suggests, Hannibal is based on the iconic character of the same name borne from Thomas Harris’ novels. In this series, he is played by Mads Mikkelsen, and the bulk of the show follows on exploring his relationship between FBI investigator, Will Graham, played by Hugh Dancy. Their relationship is immensely complicated as they are sworn enemies, and yet have a sinister understanding of one another.

Aside from Mikkelson and Dancy, Hannibal also starred notable actors like Laurence Fishburne and Gillian Anderson.
