3. Legion (2017 – present)

How to watch: All three seasons of Legion are available for purchase through Amazon Video

If you haven’t gotten sick of Marvel or shows with a superhero theme, then I highly recommend you look into the FX series, Legion. It is unlike any other superhero television series in existence. It’s hard to even label it as such. Legion is more of a sci-fi psychological thriller. The series stars Dan Stevens as David Haller, also known as Legion.

He is the son of Charles Xavier from the X-Men universe. When David was young, he was diagnosed as schizophrenic. But eventually, David learns there may be something else going on beyond the simple explanation of mental illness. Like his father, Haller has special abilities. The first season of the show focuses on David trying to run from a government agency known as Division 3.

In addition to Dan Stevens, Rachel Keller, Aubrey Plaza, Bill Irwin, Jeremie Harris, Amber Midthunder, Katie Aselton, Jean Smart, Navid Negahban, Jemaine Clement, Hamish Linklater, and Lauren Tsai also star. The series is composed of three seasons, the third of which is currently airing. The series finale is set to air later this summer.

In terms of where this series connects to the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe, it is loose, at best. Given Legion is coming to an end soon, it is unlikely we’ll ever see characters from the FX show crossover into the film continuity. However, there have been a few subtle nods, and the show’s creators have talked about their feelings on the connection more in-depth during various interviews.
