14. American Gods

American Gods is based on the popular 2001 novel by Neil Gaiman. The fantasy drama tells the story of the ongoing battle between the Old Gods and the New Gods.

It follows Shadow (Ricky Whittle), a former convict who gets released from prison early due to his wife’s death and his discovery of a hidden world where magic is actually real. In the hidden world the Old Gods of folklore fear irrelevance due to the ever-growing power of the modern New Gods, which include media, technology and finance.

The show currently has two seasons with 16 episodes in total as of right now. American Gods has also been renewed for a third season. It will probably be a while for the third season seeing as the first season came out in April 2017 and the second season released March 2019, but that gives you more time to catch up.

You can catch up now with a Starz subscription on Amazon Channels. For just $8.99 per month you can watch some excellent series and movies, starting with a seven-day free trial!

13. Chernobyl

This unsettling new mini-series by HBO is based on the true events of the 1980’s nuclear disaster in the Soviet Union. It doesn’t just give us a history lesson and retell the story, but it keeps it fascinating and horrifying in a way we haven’t heard of before.

The series did an outstanding job of displaying the astonishing heroism of those who gave their lives to save others. The hundreds of miners and soldiers who worked trying to avert disaster by removing graphite debit above the reactor core, which certainly meant death. The firemen who desperately tried to put out the blaze even though they were being burnt and exposed to so much radiation.

Most shows and movies about Chernobyl in the past only showed the leading up to the disaster or fictional after-effects of the tragedy, but Chernobyl gives you the full insight at the same time as making you feel horrified and informed. Chernobyl has received some phenomenal reviews with a 9.6/10 on IMDb and a 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes it is sure to impress.

There are only five episodes spanning for a total of six hours. It could be a quick watch but hard to forget.

You can watch Chernobyl through Amazon Channels with a HBO Now subscription for $14.99 per month starting with a seven-day free trial.
