6. Les Misérables

Based on the adaption of the 1854 classic novel by Victor Hugo BBC and PBS produced a mini-series, starring the likes of Lily Collins, Dominic West, and Olivia Coleman. This version is a straight-up adaptation meaning there is no singing and dancing, with the story encompassing six one-hour episodes.

Screenwriter Andrew Davies has chosen to include parts of the novel that are only referred to in backstory in the shorter musical, which will be an entirely different viewing experience. If you have watched the movie you should still give this limited series a try.

The BBC has promised that the series will “faithfully bring to life the vibrant and engaging characters, the spectacular and authentic imagery and, above all, the incredible yet accessible story that was Hugo’s lifework.”

You can watch Les Misérables through a PBS Masterpiece subscription through Amazon Channels for $5.99 per month, starting with a seven-day free trial.

5. Big Little Lies

The book-to-screen adaptation Big Little Lies by Liane Moriaty has thus far been a huge hit. Luckily HBO renewed the series for more seasons so we can still learn about the secrets, scandals, and drama beneath the families of Monterey. Season 2 is currently airing and nothing is getting any easier for the mothers of Big Little Lies.

What is great about the series is every family is unhappy in their own way, though they desperately try to put up a front that they are living the best lives – even to the point of murder. The dark comedic tale is told through the eyes of three Monterey mothers: Madeline, Celeste and Jane, who are all enduring their own deeply-rooted issues.

Big Little Lies displays how small lies shared in the community, including wives, husbands, children, and even school teachers can backfire and become terribly lethal. Making them small lies with big consequences. Season 2 started airing on June 9 and has seven episodes, with Season 1 also having the same amount.

It is an award-winning series with Season 2 only getting better with a 99% Rotten Tomatoes score. Big Little Lies is a show to not forget about.

You can watch Big Little Lies through Amazon Channels with a HBO Now subscription for $14.99 per month starting with a seven-day free trial.
