3. Ellen Ripley (Alien)
A true pioneer of strong female protagonists in film, Ellen Ripley still stands today as one of the most iconic movie characters of all time. Overcome the strange problems in a strange place, Ripley must rely on her cunning as well as physical strength to survive. The terrifying xenomorph threat will still keep you on the edge of your seats even 40 years later.
Extraterrestrial threats, advanced androids, and evil mega-corporations are no match for Ripley in this classic. Taking this chance to revisit the Alien franchise is all the more relevant considering Ridley Scott has recently been confirmed to be working on another Alien movie.

2. Diana Prince (Wonder Woman)
Wonder Woman was a fresh injection of female power into the superhero genre, that still stands the test of time. Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) is driven by self-awareness, confidence, and belief in love. Although the “fish out of water” trope is nothing new to superhero movies, it’s all the more interesting considering that Gadot is the fish out of water in this setting.
However, she masterfully fills the shoes of the beloved comic book hero. Diana’s intimidating nature is comedic when juxtaposed next to her company of bumbling idiot sidekicks. When she’s on the screen, Wonder Woman seems like the physical manifestation of the inner woman.
Fierce and formidable, Diana runs through her problems head-on. Wonder Woman is a great role model for children and women considering how the movie makes clear that Diana’s strength resides in her love for her home, her family and others close to her.

1. Daenerys Targaryen (Game of Thrones)
Born into the world with nothing but her name, Daenerys Targaryen (Emilla Clarke) overcomes real-life challenges women face in a world far removed from our own. We follow her throughout eight epic seasons of Game of Thrones through Amazon Channels, trying her hardest to help mend the wrongdoings of cruel leaders – including her own father. Daenerys tries to leave a benevolent imprint on the world, freeing slaves and tearing down misogynistic traditions, while also having her fair share of badass moments.
Daenerys is truly a self-made success story. Nothing over the course of the series was ever given to her, while outside forces constantly attempted to undermine her. She earned her reputation through the “Fire and Blood”, the Targaryen’s family words. You can really feel the power her personal relationships with characters from the show’s wide roster of characters affect her.
Towards the end of the show, Daenerys is probably the strongest person in Westeros. Yes, a woman with nothing rose above all the other knights, witches, and fantastical creatures. Even at the conclusion of Thrones, her tragic story still leaves a lot to be learned. Emilla Clarke’s portrayal of Daenerys is something really special and you can tell how much this character meant to her.
