4. True Detective

There was a time when True Detective demanded attention from everyone in the TV watching world. The first season was must-see television. It starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as a dysfunctional duo trying to solve a brutal murder. The series became so famous because of its excellent script and stunning cinematography.

Though it was McConaughey that truly stole the show as gifted but troubled detective Rust Cohle. Even though True Detective hasn’t managed to retrieve its former glory, its third season was a step in the right direction. It spanned two different time periods as Mahershala Ali’s character attempted to finish solving a murder that’s haunted him for his entire life.

3. Veep

This HBO comedy stars Julia Louis Dreyfus as the Vice President and she must be doing something right since Dreyfus has won the Emmy Award for Lead Actress in a Comedy all six times she’s been nominated. Veep is easily HBO’s most popular comedy, the show is a political satire and is known for its razor-sharp writing and phenomenal performances.
