6. Sharp Objects
Sharp Objects is yet another book adaptation, and it’s one of my favorite miniseries. Written by Gillian Flynn (also my favorite author), Sharp Objects tells the story of a damaged woman by the name of Camille Preaker who returns home to her seedy town of Wind Gap to investigate a string of gruesome murders.
While there she must face her mother, who she has been estranged from for years, and her younger sister, Amma, who has a few dark secrets of her own. The miniseries stars Amy Adams and Patricia Clarkson, both of whom were nominated for Emmy Awards for their performances. But the real breakout performance comes from Eliza Scanlen, who plays Amma.
In a surprisingly stunning dramatic performance, Bill Hader dominates this new dark comedy-drama. The series just wrapped up its second season with a superb finale and it has been renewed for a third outing.
Bill Hader plays the title character, Barry Berkman, a low-level hitman who has sunken into a depression and is eager to get out of his profession of choice. While traveling to Los Angeles for yet another assignment, Barry realizes he would rather be an actor, but getting out of his life of crime won’t be easy.
