8. Game of Thrones
Now that Game of Thrones has officially come to a close, and there’s no excuse not to settle in for the long-haul and binge all eight seasons. No more waiting week-to-week for a new episode, you can watch the entirety of the series at your leisure. Based on George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire book series, Game of Thrones is an epic fantasy show with dragons, knights, and an infamous battle for the Iron Throne.
Regardless of dissenting opinions on the finale’s quality, there’s no denying the cultural impact of this behemoth series. It’s a show you should watch at least once all the way through before you die.
7. Big Little Lies
HBO tends to have great success with book-to-screen adaptations as several of their most successful series have been based on print. The trend continues with Big Little Lies, which is based on Liane Moriarty’s book of the same name. Big Little Lies is set in the picturesque town of Monterey, California where it centers around a group of affluent women who get embroiled in a tale of mischief and murder.
Not only is the series’ central mystery incredibly engrossing but the show has an all-star cast with excellent performances by Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Alexander Skarsgard, Shailene Woodley, and Zoe Kravitz. The series will return for a second season later this month and will even feature acclaimed actress, Meryl Streep, in a pivotal role.
