8. Homeland

Fans have been waiting on the eighth and final season of Homeland for some time now. It is due to release sometime late this year finally. The series follows Claire Danes’ character, Carrie Matheson, a CIA case officer in the counter-terrorism unit. She struggles with bipolar disorder and has had to deal with the stigma that comes with being mentally ill as a constant point of conflict across the series.

The first season focuses on Carrie’s firm belief that Nicholas Brody (Damien Lewis) a retired Marine Gunnery Sergeant and Congressman is a terrorist after he is rescued from being a prisoner of war by al-Qaeda for eight years. Given the country’s respect and support for Brody’s heroics and his return to the states, no one is willing to believe Carrie, and she even begins to doubt herself.

Homeland is a thrilling spy drama that has earned Claire Danes several Emmy awards. The show itself has garnered awards throughout its run and despite having some controversial elements, has remained one of Showtime’s most popular series in the last decade.

Mandy Patinkin (Criminal Minds) stars alongside Dane’s character as Saul Berenson and has also gotten nominated for both a Golden Globe and Emmy Award for his portrayal.
