4. What does Yara expect to do at the Iron Islands?

Theon stepped up by saving Yara from imprisonment on the Golden Company’s ships. However, Yara then left him. She’s off back to the Iron Islands.

I get that she’s using it as a last defensive point. She is on the side of the living and she is willing to stand behind Jon and Dany for now. However, I have one big question. What does she think she can do from the Iron Islands? If Winterfell falls then that’s it. I don’t think there’s much hope for the rest of Westeros.

There simply aren’t enough people on the Iron Islands to fight. Really, it’s a cowardly move considering she will likely know by now that the army of the dead can’t cross water. The Night King has his dragon and could possibly build a bridge, but it would take time for the army to cross the water. She knows her people are at the safest on the Iron Islands instead of heading to Winterfell to help with the fight.

It seems odd that Yara would even consider taking a cowardly way out. Maybe I’m just thinking too small though.

One thing I am glad to see is that she didn’t stop Theon from leaving. She understands his question of loyalty between the Starks and the Greyjoys and she didn’t get angry for his need to head back to the Starks to help them.

I do get the feeling that heading back to the Iron Islands was a hint. Winterfell is going to fall but people are going to escape. The best place for Jon to take everyone is to the Iron Islands.
