10 shows in danger of being canceled and 5 shows Amazon should save
Amazon should save: Nightflyers
Number of seasons: 1
When it was canceled: It was canceled earlier this year after its first season.
What it’s about: Based on the novella by George R.R. Martin, Nightflyers is set in a dystopian future where eight scientists and a telepath are on a mission to the edge of the solar system. There’s plenty of danger outside but the real danger turns out to be on the spaceship, the Nightflyer.
Why it needs to be saved: Nightflyers simply wasn’t given the chance that it was deserved by SYFY. The network opted for crazy scheduling, airing a new episode each night over the space of two weeks. Just before Christmas, this was doomed to fail. Who watches a new episode of a show every single night except through a streaming service?
While the show certainly would do well binging like this, it needed to be on a streaming service. And while I’ve mentioned Netflix should save it, Nightflyers would actually belong better on Amazon Prime Video. After all, this is already the home for The Expanse, another SYFY show canceled too soon.
The two shows would work perfectly together. Plus, fans of one would likely love the other, already creating a fanbase on the streaming service.
In danger: How to Get Away with Murder
Network: ABC
Can you watch on Amazon Prime? Not for free. You can purchase the seasons.
What it’s about: How to Get Away with Murder is about
Why it’s in danger: Because of the way networks decide on the fates of shows, How to Get Away with Murder isn’t looking too hot for the next season. Its ratings were at an all-time low for its fifth season. Considering it’s part of ABC’s highly anticipated TGIT lineup, low ratings aren’t something the network will want.
The only thing that may save this is the fact it’s been on the air for so long. ABC may offer How to Get Away with Murder a sixth and final wrap-up season. However, we could see an ending announcement before May.
