1. The Blues Brothers

We jump to the 1980s for the last movie on this list to watch instead of the Super Bowl tomorrow. The Blues Brothers is by far one of the best movies in the whole Feb. 1 release on Amazon Prime Video and one that you’ll want to watch over and over again.

John Belushi and dan Aykroyd star as Jake and Elwood Blues, developed from the Saturday Night Live musical sketch from the years earlier. Aykroyd co-write the screenplay with director John Landis, and many of the musical numbers were done by James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, and other blues greats. Carrie Fisher, Charles Napier, and John Candy were among some of the non-musical supporting players.

The Blues Brothers is a story of redemption. The Elwood brothers are on a “mission from God,” when they learn that a Catholic orphanage is going to be foreclosed. They decide to reunite their R&B band in the hope of raising $5,000 to help pay the tax bill.

However, that journey turns into something bigger, when they learn that they’re being targeted by different groups, including a country and western band, Neo-Nazis, and a homicidal woman. Oh, and the police are after them, just in case the rest wasn’t enough.

This is one of those movies a little like A Clockwork Orange. It wasn’t a huge success when it was first released but has become a cult classic now and definitely the one movie you need to watch instead of the Super Bowl if you’re only going to pick the one.
