5. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider

First on the list of movies to watch instead of the Super Bowl is Angelina Jolie’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Sure, it’s cheesy and Jolie’s English accent was cringe-worthy, but it’s one of the best video game adaptations going.

Based on the video game of the same name, the story is about the titular character. Lara is a beautiful and smart heiress who goes on a fearless quest across the globe to save the world. She has to face her personal enemies and demons while solving clues and taking daring risks to be able to succeed.

Jolie isn’t the only big-named star in the movie. James Bond‘s Daniel Craig and Game of Thrones‘ Iain Glenn also star. There is a sequel and there have been attempts to reboot the franchise with a more recent movie, but none quite manage to have the magic that this 2001 version did.

Even if you’re not an action fan, there is going to be something for you. There’s no need to understand the game, allowing you to delve into the mythology of the franchise easily. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll be on the edge of your seats at times. There is no way that you’ll want to watch the Super Bowl when you can put this on instead.
