5 movies you won’t believe are turning 5 in 2019

1. Guardians of the Galaxy

Date it premiere: Aug. 1, 2014

Financial and critical acclaim: Guardians of the Galaxy was the surprise Marvel movie. Introducing heroes that many of us had never heard of, we got a chance to see the superheroes in space. As with all Marvel movies, it had a huge budget of $177m but it didn’t immediately make that back. Opening weekend saw it pull in $94m, with it grossing $333m gross in the U.S. The worldwide gross is an impressive $774m.

While it was nominated for two Oscars, it didn’t win anything. However, critics and audiences alike have loved it, giving it a 91% and 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes respectively.

Why we loved it: What isn’t there to love about Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s one of those movies you can put on over and over again and watch it with the whole family. Yes, my whole family adores it, including the three-year-old.

It’s a movie for those who suffered superhero burnout. While it’s yet another Marvel movie, it added the twist of space, the 80s nostalgia, and a hilarious take on the franchise. It’s what Thor attempted to accomplish with the first two movies and fully accomplished with the third, a much needed comedic take in a world of violence and distruction.
