4. Rumple — Once Upon a Time

Season & episode: Season 7, Episode 22

What happened: As it looked like we’d lose Wish Hook, Rumple made a sacrifice. He removed his own heart and put it inside Wish Hook, killing himself and Wish Rumple in the process.

Why it was one of the most shocking TV deaths: Rumple’s death shouldn’t have been shocking. After all, it meant that he’d get to head off to an afterlife with Belle, something we’d all wanted for a very long time — well, ever since we found out Belle grew old and Rumple was left on his own.

What was shocking was that something good finally happened to him. Rumple got his happy ever after, something we just didn’t think possible from the very beginning of the series. Sometimes shocking doesn’t mean in a bad way and this was certainly one of those cases.

3. Clayton Reeves — NCIS

Season & episode: Season 15, Episode 22

What happened: When Abby and Clayton went out for the night, they were stopped by a mugger. Episode 21 left us with a gunshot and we wondered what would happen in the next episode. Clayton Reeves turned out to be the victim of that gunshot wound.

Why it was one of the most shocking TV deaths: With so much attention on Abby’s exit in NCIS Season 15, Clayton Reeves was slightly overlooked. His death didn’t happen on screen. In fact, we only got to find out about Reeves when his body was on Jimmy Palmer’s table.

It was the most heartbreaking episode of NCIS Season 15. In fact, possibly the most heartbreaking episode for a long time. He certainly deserved a better exit than that!
