12. Charlotte Richards — Lucifer

Season & episode: Season 3, Episode 21

What happened: Charlotte was one of those characters you didn’t know if you should like or love. As Lucifer’s mom, she was selfish but had some redeeming moments. As Charlotte, she started off mean but ended up with a beautiful redemption arc.

The came her death. Pierce, who was actually Cain, wanted to kill Amenadiel, believing it to be his way to get his mark back. He shot Charlotte and killed her, leaving her dying in Amenadiel’s arms.

Why it was one of the most shocking TV deaths: We should have known that a redemption arc would mean death. It usually does and Lucifer isn’t much different from other shows in terms of these types of storylines. However, many of us didn’t see it happening in the way that it did. After all, did you really think that Charlotte’s big moment would be to die.

It earned her a spot in Heaven, which was beautiful. However, that moment was bittersweet and heartbreaking for Dan.

11. David Rosen — Scandal

Season & episode: Season 7, Episode 18

What happened: After Olivia Pope told the public about B613, we hoped it would mean Vice President Cyrus Beene would finally be taken down. Well, he was, but there was a twist first. Shortly after Cyrus confessed and apologized, Rosen dropped dead. It turned out Cyrus had poisoned his drink.

Why it was one of the most shocking TV deaths: We all knew a death would eventually happen in Scandal‘s final season. You can’t go out of a show without something major like a main character death. Did any of us really see that David Rosen would be the victim? Of course not!

In a world of corruption and scandal, Rosen had remained pure and good. Seeing him taken out before the end was sad and something we didn’t quite expect at the time. Looking back, it’s easy to see why it had to happen.
