16. Madison Clark — Fear the Walking Dead

Season & episode: Season 4, Episode 8

What happened: Madison made an ultimate sacrifice for her children. Like always, she made sure they were safe. As a hoard of walkers surrounded the car her children were trapped in, she lit a flare and made sure the walkers followed her. It worked, but at the expense of her life.

Why it was one of the most shocking TV deaths: Let’s be honest, we all hoped that Madison would make it out of the hoard alive. As one of only two characters from the beginning of Fear the Walking Dead left, we needed to know that she would be there until the end. And then she wasn’t.

It was a sacrifice that I know many of us as parents would make. There have been plenty of times that I’ve gone without or sacrificed something to make sure my kids are safe, warm, fed, and loved. Many others will have done the same. I know that if it came to it, I would make the ultimate sacrifice for them, too.

But that didn’t make this storyline any less shocking.

15. Oscar Hoffman — Forever

Season & episode: Season 1, Episode 1

What happened: June and Oscar decide to shake things up a bit, as June requested. Instead of going to the lakehouse, the two decided to head off skiing for their annual holiday. And that’s when the death happened.

As June drank in the bar, Oscar skied down a hill, only to end up crashing into a tree.

Why it was one of the most shocking TV deaths: It was hard to tell what was going to happen in Forever. So very little was shared about the series and it was because of the twist at the end of the pilot episode. That’s what made it so shocking.

We thought we were getting a series about a couple that decides to change things up and deal with the consequences. Well, they certainly dealt with consequences, but they were dead as it all happened.

By the way, I didn’t include June’s death because after Oscar’s, it wasn’t as shocking. That’s the only reason why!
