4. Carnival Row

There’s a new top Amazon Original in town. Carnival Row quickly pulled everyone in with its fantastical world and brilliantly universe building. This is more than just the next Game of Thrones. It’s a series that brings current day politics to life with a magical take.

The series is set in the fictional country called The Burgue. It looks very much like Victorian-era London, they even dress similarly, but it’s a world where magic and creatures are real. The people helped the creatures, called the fae, to prevent something known as the Pact from taking over. Unfortunately, the war with the Pact was lost and now the fae have taken refuge in the Burgue.

You know how people would react to that, right? People don’t like those who are different. There’s fear and misunderstanding. The fae, called “critch” by those who want to use the derogatory term, are forced to work as servants or they make a living through prostitution or selling things on Carnival Row. They don’t get to be the doctors and performers they once were.

While all that happens, there’s a war brewing in the government. The chancellor wants to protect the fae but he’s facing some stiff opposition. What could possibly happen when the children of the two party leaders end up taking over?

And while that is all happening, can the police figure out who is murdering fae and human alike? You’ll have to find out by watching the first season now on Amazon Prime Video.
