5. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

There is no other show that could make it to the top of the list for me. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has become the comedy of the year, securing multiple Emmy wins in 2018. With a second season dropping next month, there’s far more of this Prime Original beauty to come.

It all starts with Midge Maisel, who learns that her husband (who she’s supported as he continues to struggle with his comedy career) is leaving her for his secretary. Yes, his secretary! It’s a cliche element to the story set in the 1950s, but it’s perfect to kick the comedy right off.

This is a time when being a divorcee was a major stigma. Midge doesn’t want to admit it to her friends. She doesn’t want to be one of those at the back of her fitness class. After all, as one of her friends put its, married women workout so they can eat cheesecake and the divorcees go so they can get a man.

And while Midge is going through this chance in marital status, she’s finding success as a comedian in her own right. Of course, that brings its ups and downs — along with its arrests.

The pilot episode is a treat and the comedy gets better from there. It’s one of those shows that lures you in with the promise of laughter and keeps you hooked with a fast-paced storyline and excellent acting. If you love Gilmore Girls, you’re most definitely going to want to watch The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
