15. The Wheel of Time

There are plenty of fantasy shows out there. Nowadays, they tend to be compared to Game of Thrones. Usually in the phrasing of “Will X become [streamer]’s answer to Game of Thrones.” The idea is whether it will be as big as the show—that series that doesn’t start off all that successful but gains an audience after three seasons or so and continues to gain an audience after that.

The Wheel of Time is the show that has been looked at as Amazon’s Game of Thrones. However, the series deserves to stand out on its own.

Based on the book series by Robert Jordan, the show is set in a world where only women can channel magic. The men who try go crazy. However, there is a threat against people and only the Dragon Reborn could be the savior. If pulled in by the Dark One, the Dragon Reborn will destroy the world, so it’s up to the Aes Sedai to find the Dragon Reborn and bring him or her over to the good side.

The first season just gets us started. We get to know who the Dragon Reborn is and see which side this person will choose. We also get to know multiple other characters, getting ready for plenty of storylines involving them and their character growth.

It already promises to be the epic fantasy that it said it would be. Now we’re excited to se the second season.
