7. Black Sails

When you want a period drama and a book adaptation at the same time, there are a handful of STARZ Originals to turn to. One of the best is definitely Black Sails. The prequel to “Treasure Island” by Robert Louis Stevenson is the perfect way to get your pirate fix.

Set about two decades before “Treasure Island” takes place, you’re taken on a journey with Captain Flint during the Golden Age of Piracy. When he brings on a new crew member, the crew find themselves fighting for the survival of the New Providence island. Maritime trade is being threatened by pirates but sometimes it’s better to join them instead of fighting against them.

During the first season, there’s the focus on the Spanish treasure known as the Urca de Lima. Can the crew get their hands on it before another set of pirates do? Of course, there’s the development of Flint’s story, as he goes from law-abiding gentleman of the seas to pirate.

All four seasons of the series are available on the STARZ app. You’ll get them all with your Amazon Channels subscription. This series has now come to an end, but the story does close relatively well. Of course, it’s that good that you know you’ll want more — but that’s what happens with awesome shows, right?
