4. The Motorcycle Diaries (Diarios de motocicleta)

You know all about the activist and political activities of Che Guevara, but what about his life before that? Just before his last semester of medical school, Ernesto “Che” Guevara heads off on a trip from Brazil to Peru through the roads of South America with his best friend Alberto Granado. They do it all by motorcycle.

This is the story of how Che became the man he was known for throughout his later life. He had the chance to see the difficulties many peasants faced and the differences between the poor and wealthy. He witnessed, first hand, how laborers were treated.

However, it wasn’t until Che reached Peru and saw the leper colony that his opinions and thoughts changed. This was the moment he forgot his own comfort and sided with those who needed him to help them fight.

The movie takes you through the horrors Che saw, on what was supposed to be a break around the country before finishing off med school.  This isn’t about the propaganda shared at the time, but offering a stark reality of the time.

The Motorcycle Diaries drops on Amazon Prime Video on Nov. 1.
