9. Carrie

There’s no doubt that you need to put on some Stephen King when it comes to Halloween. Let’s start with Carrie on this list. The story of the telekinetic girl who turns murderous after figuring out how to control her powers.

The story is a horror from start to finish but not in the way you would usually expect. At first, it’s a look at a young girl’s awful life between being bullied at school and tortured (literally) at home. Then it becomes a complete blood bath, in a very typical King fashion.

If you haven’t read the book, by the way, make sure you do that as well as watching the original movie!

8. Child’s Play

There have been plenty of reiterations of this murderous doll, but the first movie is always the best. It’s the beginning of the tale, of the curse, so to speak. Child’s Play has a tiny cast but it works to the advantage. You’re given the chance to get to know the main characters, leaving you rooting for their survival throughout.

The second and third movies aren’t too bad, but that’s where it starts getting ridiculous for me. There’s no beating the first movie. You’ll never hear the phrase “Hi, I’m Chucky. Do you want to play?” the same again. Nor will you ever want to get your child the latest popular toy on the market!
