Sneaky Pete season 2, episode 5 recap and grade: The Tower
Marius knows Pete’s mom is alive but he needs to find her or else his cover could be blown.
It took four episodes into Sneaky Pete’s season 2, but Marius found Pete’s mom. The problem is he lost her quicker than he found her and they still don’t have any idea where the money is. Meanwhile, Taylor is worried sick about the ongoing investigation into Winslow’s murder and Audrey is throwing cookies on the floor in a clear sign she’s losing her mind over this as well.
Marius is desperate to find Maggie so he wants Marjorie to call Pete to get him back from Sedona. For the first time this season, Marius’ probation officer Bagwell shows up and he’s not going to take any of his crap this time. Of course, Marius had a great cover for his past lies but needed to use Julia to pretend to be his ex and cover his story about the cat that needed surgery, which was Marius’ excuse for blowing off their appointment last season. Julia successfully pulls off the con, but wonders why Bagwell called him Josipovic.
Julia is getting good at this whole money laundering thing and washed Dockery’s 500K through real estate, thanks in part to Lance, but now he has more cash that needs to be laundered for her.
Some detective work is being done by Frank and Joe. Maggie’s friend Dolores at Rosedale said Maggie was going to find her son and that leads Frank and Joe to thinking that perhaps Marius is not actually Pete and they have the wrong guy. And they’ve had enough with their boss and Joe talks about killing Luca.
Real detective work is being done by Taylor as he tracks down the truck owners that fit the color scheme that collided with Winslow’s vehicle. One of them is Audrey so he and Robie take a visit to the farm to visit with Audrey so they can get a first-hand look at the type of vehicle they’re looking for. Robie isn’t entirely suspicious, but she is doing her due diligence nonetheless. And now Robie learns Winslow was tracking Josopovic, who they think is the real Pete.

And as if things couldn’t get more hectic for Taylor, he has to get his story straight when the kid he beat up in season 1, Avon, is pressing charges. Good thing Marius overheard because he goes to the pool hall to pay Avon a visit to get him to drop the charges if he beats him in a game of pool. After showing off his skills on the billiards table, Marius simply offers him a cash settlement to drop the charges. That’s what fake cousins are for after all.
Marius gets a call from Pete who tells him he’s been a great friend to him but after he reconnected with his mom, they’re planning on disappearing. He hangs up and Marius is left hanging as he still needs to come up with the $11 million.
And more good deeds in this episode as Sam comes to the rescue of Otto who was held hostage by Colin. After Colin got his dad’s jacket and whatever note was inside, he was prepared to kill Otto, but Sam intervened and pulled his gun on Colin who has no choice but to let him go.
They celebrate afterward after meeting Moe and have a few beers when Carly comes to visit. Here, Otto tells the story to Carly about how her parents met at the bond shop. Turns out Carly’s mom was a badass, and Taylor was right when he said she was just like her mom. I can see Carly taking a role in the family business when she gets older. She’s already shown so many great instincts.
The meeting at the bar comes to an abrupt end when Taylor texts the whole family and needs them to come to the farmhouse right away.
As the family shows up, Taylor and Carly reveal the big surprise at the house. It’s none other than Maggie returning home. And best yet, she hugs Marius, to keep the con alive that he’s her son. But how much longer can this con exist before the truth comes to light?
