Amazon: Jeffrey Tambor out at Transparent amid harassment accusations
Jeffrey Tambor is officially done with Transparent after the actor was accused of harassment.
Transparent will continue for season 5 but will do so without its Emmy-winning lead actor Jeffrey Tambor. Amazon confirmed to Deadline that Tambor will no longer appear on the Amazon Original series after transgender actresses Van Barnes and Trace Lysette accused Tambor of sexual harassment. Shortly thereafter Tamara Delbridge accused Tambor of forcibly kissing her on the set of the movie Never Again in 2001.
In November, Tambor released a statement saying, “I don’t see how I can return to Transparent,” citing the growing claims against him and “the politicized atmosphere that seems to have afflicted our set.” This statement was interpreted by me and many others as a statement of contrition that Tambor will be leaving the show. But Tambor quickly took that back and said it was basically him being resigned to the fact that it’ll be hard to return to the set after the environment he created and was not actually going to be leaving the show.
Now all of that can be put to rest because Tambor is done. This was the right move all along and I’m frankly a little shocked that it took this long to remove him from the cast. By comparison, Netflix acted quickly in firing Kevin Spacey from House of Cards after sexual misconduct allegations were levied against him and they also severed ties with Louis C.K. on a planned comedy special after he admitted to sexual misconduct.
Why did it take Amazon this long to make a decision? I don’t know, and we don’t know the findings of Amazon’s investigation but Deadline reported his behavior could not be justified or excused.
So that tells you all you need to know.

As for the fate of Transparent, the rest of the cast and crew are all returning for the fifth season of the flagship Amazon series. How the show moves forward without the lead character remains to be seen as does the future of the show beyond season 5. If the show resonates with viewers and maintains the quality of the early seasons, then it stands to reason that Transparent can continue into a sixth season but that decision won’t be made until weeks and months after the season 5 premiere later this year.
