Watch the Super Bowl ad for new Amazon Original series Jack Ryan, starring The Office’s John Krasinski.

I’ve written this a few different times already this year, but 2018 is shaping up to be a banner year for Amazon Studios. There are plenty of new shows and movies coming to Amazon Prime this year and many of your favorite shows like Mozart in the Jungle, Transparent, Bosch and The Man in the High Castle. This also doesn’t include the Lord of the Rings series that’s under development either. Needless to say, Amazon is finally serious about challenging Netflix and Hulu in the ongoing streaming wars.

Helping Amazon in the streaming wars is the upcoming release of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, starring John Krasinski in the titular role. We’ve seen this character in several iterations before, but never in the serialized TV format, so I’m particularly stoked to see how it plays out on Amazon Prime.

Information has been scant so far about the show, but we do know Wendell Pierce (The Wire) is one of the top co-stars to The Office alum, Krasinski and Lost producer and writer, Carlton Cuse is the co-creator with fellow Lost alum, Graham Roland.

But we’ve got our longest look at Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan yet with the release of the Super Bowl commercial that gives us a sense of the world we’ll be dropped into when the show premieres.

I thought it was pretty cool to hear the voiceovers from the various presidents as the footage shows Jack Ryan in the field where he’s facing dangerous assignments for the first time. The rising star in the CIA is about to be thrust into a world he may not be ready for as he tries to intercept communication between terrorists and prevent full-on global terrorism.

In other words, Jack Ryan will be the hero the world needs.

And at the end of the Super Bowl spot, we see the show will be released in August. The entire first season will be added on Aug. 31 so fans will have all of Labor Day weekend to binge-watch what looks like the best action series Amazon has to date.
