Oscars 2018: The Big Sick earns Best Original Screenplay nomination

Amazon is headed back to the Academy Awards after The Big Sick picked up an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay.

Congratulations are in order for Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon after they were nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for The Big Sick. The real-life husband and wife penned the script about their unique love story and was a huge hit from the first screening.

Last year, it was Manchester by the Sea that opened the door for Amazon to get into the Academy Awards. After that movie picked up a few big wins, Amazon is hoping for another win this year for The Big Sick.

The movie was so great and if you haven’t seen it yet, you can watch it for free on Amazon Prime Video. Do not waste any more time and please go watch this film, especially before the March 4 broadcast on ABC of the 90th Academy Awards.

Nanjiani took the Oscar nomination in stride with his deadpan wit on Twitter. Truth be told, if I was ever nominated for an Oscar (or any sort of meaningful award) I would probably be all self-deprecating and nonchalant too.

Pretty cool morning for the husband and wife, huh?

Kudos to them.

The Big Sick was incredibly personal and I’m sure it was a cathartic experience to write this script and detail all the moments from Emily’s sickness that threatened her life. So to wake up this morning and hear your name announced as one of the nominations for an Oscar must have been an emotional and fulfilling experience.

I’m rooting for them to win when the 90th Academy Awards air on ABC on Sunday, March 4.

I think they have a pretty good chance to win too, so fingers crossed they’ll bring home another win for Amazon Studios.
