Kate Beckinsale has joined the cast for new Amazon Original series The Widow and it sounds like this could be a really good show.

2018 is shaping up to be a great year on Amazon Prime Video. It will see the return of high-profile shows like Sneaky Pete, The Man in the High Castle and Mozart in the Jungle, among others. But it’ll also give rise to new shows like Jack Ryan, starring John Krasinski, Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams and The Widow, which just cast Kate Beckinsale as the lead.

Beckinsale is widely known for her long and illustrious film career where she’s appeared in The Aviator, Pearl Harbor, Serendipity and, of course, her leading role in the Underworld franchise. Beckinsale’s move from movies to TV is becoming a growing trend and I hope we’ll see some more stars from the big screen plying their trade on the small screen.

The Widow comes from brothers Harry and Jack Williams who are also the producers for fellow Amazon series Fleabag, which also returns with new episodes in 2018 and will be directed by Sam Donovan and Olly Blackburn.

"“Kate Beckinsale is a brilliantly talented actress and we’re thrilled she’s joining us on this journey — we couldn’t imagine anyone more perfect for the role,” the Williams brothers said in a joint statement, via Hollywood Reporter. “The Widow is our most ambitious and cinematic piece to date and we can’t wait to bring the dark heart of the Congolese jungle to the screen.”"

Now what you’re all wondering about. So what will The Widow be about?

The series will be filmed in South Africa, Wales and Rotterdam, Netherlands so it’s going to have a global appeal and look when it does premiere. Beckinsale’s character Georgia Wells has severed all ties to her old life until she sees her “late” husband on TV. Now that he’s not as dead as she was led to believe, she begins to return to her past in order to get the truth and it’ll lead her down a road of danger through the African Congo.
