When will The Shape of Water be on Amazon Video/Blu-ray/DVD?
Here’s when movie fans can expect to see Guillermo del Toro’s latest movie, The Shape of Water on Amazon Video, Blu-ray and DVD.
Lost in the shuffle of blockbuster releases like Star Wars: The Last Jedi and the heavily-promoted Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle comes the latest film from Guillermo del Toro titled The Shape of Water.
After the success of Hellboy, Pacific Rim, Pan’s Labyrinth, among others, comes this movie starring Sally Hawkins as a mute janitor working in a secret research facility in the 1960s. She lives a life of isolation with the exception of her co-worker Zelda, played by Octavia Spencer. Together they discover a big secret going on at the research facility when they befriend a mysterious aquatic creature, played by Doug Jones.
The cast is rounded out by Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Michael Stuhlbarg and David Hewlett.
The movie has already generated a lot of positive reviews from critics as well as fans and currently sports an 8.2 rating on IMDB, suggesting it’s one of the best movies at the movie theater. If you have some time off from work and/or school for the holidays, I definitely recommend taking the trip to your local theater to check out this movie.

But I also recognize that the movie theater experience isn’t so enticing for many movie buffs. Coupled with the high ticket prices, expensive concessions, crowded theaters and braving the cold winter weather, watching movies at home is such a more palatable experience.
Having said that, I realize many are just going to wait until The Shape of Water is released on Amazon Video and Blu-ray/DVD. There is usually a three-four month wait from the theatrical release to when it’s available for home consumption. The movie was released in theaters on Dec. 8, so the earliest we’d expect to see it on sale on Blu-ray and DVD is late-March or early April. The conservative estimate is April will be when it’s on sale on Amazon.
It will be available for download on Amazon Video about a week earlier than the Blu-ray/DVD date, so if you really can’t wait, you will have that option if you don’t mind not having the hard copy to add to your DVD tower.
As soon as we get the official release date, this post will be updated to reflect the exact date. Until then, the projection will have to tide you over until the spring when The Shape of Water is on sale.
